Chris Hock is the founder and president of Griffon Partners, a boutique consultancy that delivers leadership,  sales advisory and retained search services.    At the heart of Chris’ practice is sales and marketing whether it is to help companies themselves improve their processes, find the elite leaders who can drive their business or drive Griffon Partner’s growth. Growing up as a middle-class Midwestern kid in Mansfield, OH Chris caught the entrepreneurial/ sales bug early mowing lawns, working grunt jobs in the manufacturing shops of local successful entrepreneurs and watching his grandfather build a business from scratch which he started after returning home from WW2.  These experiences inspired Chris to build eventually want to own his own business someday.

He was as a student athlete and graduated from The Ohio State University’s Honors Accounting Program in the early 90’s.  After college, he then moved to Denver, Colorado to begin his professional odyssey starting out as a (then) Big 6 Accountant and consultant with Deloitte and Touche. Noticing his desire to spend too much time talking with client’s and partners about the business problems which needing solved and the firm’s services that could be sold to do so vs… doing his audit work Chris set a goal to take make the career leap from accounting into sales.   Thankfully he did this before his constant challenging of the business development status quo at the firm got him fired!

While interviewing for sales roles with software and medical products companies Chris was recruited by one of the largest, most dominate international staffing and recruiting firms to work as a recruiter in their Denver office.  the next 5 years would be an explosive period of growth both for him personally, receiving 4 promotions, as well as the firm.  During that time, Chris would become one of the top 3 recruiters in the region, successfully launch the Denver market’s senior level project professional business achieving the fastest start to 30 consultants on billing  in 6 months in the company,  travel the country helping the first 50 offices optimize sales and get off the ground before being tasked with then stabilizing and turning around two of the company’s higher potential but under-performing offices in the Midwest.  One office went from the bottom 3 in the region to the top 3 in only a year. After a great run, it was time for Chris to focus to focus on achieving the goal of running his own company.   With a vision to offer clients “large firm” resources with “boutique firm” focus, commitment and agility Chris set out to build a unique business that put his experience as a consultant and sales leader to use.

To offer clients the most impact Chris’ focused his search and advisory services on applying his experience and research to help clients pull the 2 main levers for company success as he saw it; 1) Build the best leadership teams possible and 2) Drive the best sales strategies. 18 years later Griffon Partners has helped a number of companies build exceptional sales, marketing and other functional leadership teams.  Clients range from start-ups to growth-minded Fortune 500 companies.   A number of Chris’ clients have gone on to achieve as much as 4x-10x growth in the time they’ve worked together as well as profitable liquidity events as large as $2.2B.  Chris lives in Central Ohio with his wife Lori and their two dogs Tex and Ranger.  When he’s not working, Chris enjoys a number of outdoor activities including boating, hunting, fishing, and Archery.   Chris is also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and active competitor.
